Adaptations

If you are elderly or have a physical disability, you may need adaptations made to your home so that you can continue to live independently.

AdaptionsThe adaptations may be minor, for example the fitting of a grab rail in your bathroom, or may require more work, such as the creation of a level access shower.

Working with Social Services occupational therapists, our Home Improvement Agency will carry out adaptation work to both private sector and Spirita properties in Rushcliffe only.

A dedicated team will secure funding for the work, let you know when it will be carried out, and ensure that it is completed satisfactorily.

If you need adaptations made to your home, contact South Notts Home Improvement Agency on 0115 9887181.

Preventative Adaptation Service (PAS)

PAS is for people aged 70 years and over who are beginning to feel unsteady on their feet. Minor adaptations, such as grab rails and stair rails, are fitted to help them live more independently in their homes.

PAS is intended as a preventative service rather than one that reacts to emergency situations or hospital discharges. Hospital discharges are best dealt with by Social Services.

The service is funded by Nottinghamshire County Council. Rushcliffe receives additional funding from Rushcliffe Borough Council, Spirita and the Primary Care Trust.

Details of the service

PAS is available to home owners and tenants in Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe. Please note, Broxtowe Borough Council has its own scheme for providing minor adaptations to its council tenants.

The PAS scheme is non-means tested. There is a £10 charge after completion of works, regardless of whether one grab rail is fitted or a package of adaptations is fitted.

Adaptations are fitted by approved contractors who have been CRB checked. They include Sherwood Industries, Helping Hands and Oglesby.

People can refer themselves or be referred by family, friends or neighbours. They can also be referred by health or other professionals. Referrals can be made by telephone, posting a completed form to PAS, or completing a form by e-mail or fax.
