Annual Gas Safety Checks

Posted by Spirita on February 1, 2012 | No Comments

As your landlord, Metropolitan have a legal obligation to make sure all appliances supplied for you to use are maintained and in a safe condition, every 12 months. As part of the safety check,l a Carbon Monoxide Alarm is provided and installed free of charge.

Even if your meter is in debt, if you do not use the appliance or if the appliance has been capped off previously, it must be checked every year as this is a legal requirement. If we cannot gain access to complete the safety check, we follow a process which results in taking legal action against the resident not allowing access. All costs involved are charged back to the resident. To date we have won all court cases and been awarded costs incurred for all cases. On average the costs have been £900. Read on…

Operation Orphan is an organisation that aims to create brighter futures for orphans and vulnerable children in our world. One of the projects they are involved with is to collect knitted teddies made by volunteers in the UK to take to children in countries affected by disasers. Teddies are a simple gift that children can call their own when they may have lost family, friends and belongings.

In January, 40 teddies which were knitted and donated by a group of residents in Spirita’s sheltered housing schemes, started on their journey to Ghana, where they will be distributed  to the children receiving treatment in the nutrition centre near Tamale in Northern Ghana. Read on…
