Free learning opportunity for Spirita residents

16 March 2008

Spirita Ltd, one of the largest providers of housing and associated services in the East Midlands, is offering its residents the opportunity to take up free place on a course for a Level 2 Certificate in Housing. The course is being run by the Chartered Institute of Housing and the placements will be funded by Metropolitan Housing Partnership.

Lesley Watson, Senior Community Involvement Officer for Spirita explained the aims of the course:"It will provide learners with a basic understanding of housing and introduce them to some of the skills and knowledge necessary to participate in housing related activities - paid or voluntary," she said. "It will also help to prepare students for future study and qualifications.

"Both parties will gain from this terrific opportunity. Our residents will not only be better equipped to engage and challenge the way Spirita operates and they will learn new skills at the same time."

There are 12 places available on the course, and a free information session will be held on 14th April at Hill View Community Centre, Ransom Road, St Ann's, Nottingham from 12.30pm - 1.30pm. Senior Lecturer at Castle College, Tony Ward, will be on hand to tell people more about the course and answer any questions.

'I hope that people will come along to see what it's all about," said Lesley."They won't have to miss lunch as that will be provided, and they will find out whether they think that gaining a qualification like this is something that they want to do.

'Attending the course will not alter people's entitlement to claim benefits, which we know may be a concern for some and the advantages are significant. We hope it will encourage people back into education to gain a recognised qualification and could lead to the potential start of a new career.
