Hadhari Nari, the Derby-based Women’s Aid refuge, has revealed that it has been awarded £212,442 from the Big Lottery Fund plus a further £94,608 from the BBC’s Children in Need Appeal Earlier this year the refuge successfully applied and was approved for assistance as part of its pro-active fundraising endeavours.
The money will be used to help fund two major projects
The first is a Learning Together project, which will offer a programme of family learning activities It will benefit 200 families staying at Hadhari Nari’s Women’s Refuge for women and children who have experienced violent and abusive relationships The funding from the Big Lottery’s Family Learning Programme will finance a new children and family worker over a five year period who will take the project forward.
The second project supports children and young people staying in the refuge, providing play and leisure activities The £94,608 from Children in Need will fund two part-time children’s workers for a three year period.
A delighted Cherry Henry, who is Head of the Hadhari Nari Project, said: “This is a really welcome boost and will benefit the lives of the women and children staying at our refuge, who are all survivors of domestic violence and abuse These are very vulnerable people who need all the help we can provide, to try and recover from the effects of this type of abuse
“We depend on funding such as this for our special projects, so we are tremendously grateful to both the Big Lottery and Children in Need for their support
“We also need further funding for our advice centre, which offers a valuable service to so many women, and we are actively seeking further fundraising opportunities at the moment.”
