The date by which the repair should be completed is also shown on the letter.

Rechargeable repairs

Repairs due to neglect, nuisance, accident or wilful damage, regardless of who cause the damage, are your responsibility under the terms of your tenancy. If we have to carry out any of these repairs you may be recharged for them.

Gas leaks

Gas leaks are very serious and need immediate attention by you, the occupier.

If you smell gas, follow these four simple steps.

1. Turn off the gas supply. The main gas on/off lever can be found next to your gas meter.
2. Open windows and doors. This will allow any gas which as built up in your home to disperse.
3. Do not turn on/off lights/sockets or light any matches. Switching lights on, etc, can often generate sparks which could be enough to ignite any escaped gas in the air.
4. Ring Transco on 0800 111 999.

For emergencies you will need to provide them with some basic information, including your name, address, telephone number and details about the problem. You may be asked to carry out some simple procedures to try to remedy the problem yourself, depending on the type of emergency you are reporting. If the fault cannot be put right, the out of hours service providers will pass your information on to the appropriate contractor.
