Contents insurance
Your guide to home contents insurance cover
We strongly recommend that you take out contents insurance when you become a Spirita resident. It is best to be prepared for the unexpected!
Imagine that you've just come home from work to find your living room flooded, or a fire starts in your kitchen while making dinner.
If you are in one of our rented properties, the cost of repairs to your home will often be covered by our buildings insurance. But what about your possessions – clothes, bedding, kids' toys and all those other things you use every day? We don't own these, so are unable to insure them. Taking out insurance to cover the contents of your home is your responsibility.
Taking out home contents insurance protects your possessions against loss or damage from events such as kitchen fires, burst pipes and thefts. There are different levels of cover available, so you should be able to find a cover to suit your needs. You might even be surprised at how little you have to pay. Many schemes give you the option to pay monthly - sometimes with a payment card at the post office.
To give you an idea
Take a look around your house. How much might it cost to replace your most valuable possessions, such as the furniture, beds, clothes, and your child's toys? The contents in your lounge alone could be worth up to £3,500. A two bedroom flat could hold over £10,000 worth of valuable possessions. However, it is possible to insure £10,000 of home contents for around £10 a month.
