What is assisted living?

For some people older age may bring challenging health and increasing isolation or loneliness. Assisted living is a real solution supporting and enabling independent and dignified living. It is not residential care. It really is your own home yet with the peace of mind that 24-hour support may bring.

Assisted living schemes provide purpose built accommodation with up to 24-hour care and support available to help older people (usually aged 55 years or more) to live as independently as possible in their own home. Assisted living provides a higher level of support than sheltered housing as staff are on site 24-hours a day with a registered domiciliary care and support agency working on site to provide individually tailored services where required.

At both schemes, our support arm, manages the scheme staff who facilitate the day to day running of the scheme and manage a registered domiciliary care and support agency based in the schemes. A housing officer is allocated to provide the housing management service.

The services at the schemes have been officially recognised by The Commission for Social Care Inspection and Supporting People as “excellent”.

What does an assisted living scheme aim to do?

The team aim to:

  • provide individually tailored care and support services in a secure and supportive housing environment which encourages and stimulates individual independent living skills
  • ensure that you remain in you own home for as long as possible
  • help you to continue and maintain your tenancy
  • enable you to have good social contacts and have access to a range of social activities
  • give you freedom and promote choice appropriate to your cultural needs
  • respond quickly and appropriately if there is an emergency.
