Adaptations
Working with Social Services Occupational Therapists, our Home Improvement Agency will undertake all aspects of work for disabled adaptations to Spirita properties. These can range from minor adaptations such as grab rails or extra stair rails to major adaptations such as level access showers or stair lifts. A dedicated project worker will organise estimates, find a suitable contractor and ensure that the work is completed satisfactorily.

Preventative Adaptation Service(PAS)
PAS is for people of 70 years and over, and is for those who are beginning to feel unsteady on their feet. By providing minor adaptations, such as grab rails, stair rails etc. it is hoped that people will feel safer, more independent and confident in their homes. It is intended as a preventative service rather than one that reacts to emergency situations or for hospital discharges; the latter would be best dealt with by Social Services.
Details of the scheme
PAS is available to residents in Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe, both home owners and tenants. (Please note, Broxtowe Borough Council has its own scheme for providing minor adaptations to its council tenants).
- Adaptations provided in the Broxtowe and Gedling boroughs are: grab rails, stair rails, half steps and external railing. In Rushcliffe: the same as above but with a few extras like key safes, additional power points, door entry phones. This is due to additional funding available in Rushcliffe.
- Non-means tested.
- £10 charge after completion of works, regardless of whether 1 grab rail fitted or a package of adaptations.
- Adaptations fitted by approved contractors who have been CRB checked: Sherwood Industries, Helping Hands and Oglesby.
- People can refer themselves, be referred by family, friends or neighbours; or be referred by health or other professionals. Referrals can be made by telephone, posting a completed form to PAS, completing a form by e-mail, by fax.
Funding
PAS is funded by Nottinghamshire County Council. Rushcliffe receives additional funding from Rushcliffe Borough Council, Spirita and the Primary Care Trust.
